Project overview

The new Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex is an £85m healthcare facility designed to provide a range of primary, secondary and community services to the people of Omagh, Northern Ireland and the surrounding area.

Opening its doors to patients on 20th June, 2017, Omagh Hospital consists of two wards (Palliative Care & Rehabilitation) with 40 single in-patient rooms to promote privacy and dignity. There are also 22 recovery beds for patients recuperating from Day Case Surgery. Other services include a renal dialysis unit, modern GP accommodation and an Urgent Care and Treatment Centre.

Delivered on time and on budget, the Omagh Hospital project is a triumph for all teams involved, with products of the highest quality from the most prestigious companies working together to make this exciting venture a success.

Collaboration is key

Geberit worked very closely with R&F Mechanical on the design and specification of products, including distribution of potable water, specialist piping systems, sanitaryware (Geberit Duofix frames and electronic flush mechanism), soil, waste and drainage for water (Geberit HDPE) and Geberit Mapress Carbon Steel for the closed circuit heating system.

With considerable experience in high profile builds, Geberit was able to adapt to the changing requirements of this complex project, to ensure a smooth, hassle-free installation. In addition to ease of installation and experience, products such as Geberit Duofix frames, which facilitate the fitting of easy-to-clean, wall hung WCs, and touch-free electronic flushes, met the strict hygiene levels of the hospital environment.

“There was a requirement for durability and reliability. This was key, along with high aesthetics, functionality and form. Products had to be practical and needed to reduce the risk of spread of infection. The hospital also liked the idea that the Geberit Duofix frames allowed them ease of access for any maintenance, and that Geberit offers a 25-year spare parts availability guarantee. The Trust had used this product on several other hospitals so they had trust in it and were happy to go with it again.”“Quality was paramount and could not be compromised whatsoever. When you’re supplying products to a facility where people’s lives are at stake, the client simply can’t afford to compromise on quality. R&F Mechanical rose to the challenge and put in the best systems that money could buy.”
